PT Bank Sumut has officially changed its status to a Perusahaan Perseroan Daerah (Perseroda), as announced in the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPS LB) held on December 30, 2025. This change is in accordance with the Government Regulation (PP) No. 54 of 2017 regarding Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD). The bank's ownership structure, with 33 districts/cities and 1 province in North Sumatra as shareholders, led to this status change. Bank Sumut will now have to coordinate more closely with the local government, particularly the Provincial Government of North Sumatra.

According to Suwandi, the Secretary of the Company, the status change will not have a significant impact on the bank's operations. However, Bank Sumut will now have to coordinate more closely with the local government, particularly the Provincial Government of North Sumatra. The bank will also have to comply with the regulations and guidelines set by the local government.
In the same RUPS LB meeting, Marah Halim Harahap was appointed and confirmed as a member of the Dewan Pengawas Syariah. His appointment is effective after he passes the fit and proper test from the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK).
