PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, has been honored with an award from the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions for its persistent efforts in supporting rural community empowerment. The recognition was presented during the 2026 National Village Day celebration held in Boyolali on January 15, 2026. The award was received by BNI's Director of Institutional Affairs, Eko Setyo Nugroho, from Minister Yandri Susanto in a ceremony attended by thousands of participants, including village heads from Central Java, representatives from various village associations across Indonesia, and regional government officials.
In his address, Minister Yandri Susanto highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in advancing sustainable village development. He pointed out that with 75,266 villages in Indonesia, progress cannot be achieved by a single institution or sector alone. Instead, it requires coordinated efforts from government agencies, businesses, and local communities.
BNI received the award for its active role in supporting village development initiatives, particularly in strengthening local economies. The bank's contributions were aligned with the sixth point of Asta Cita, focusing on enhancing local economic resilience. Key initiatives included expanding access to inclusive financing, improving financial literacy among rural populations, and providing comprehensive support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes).
Eko Setyo Nugroho, BNI's Director of Institutional Affairs, stated that the award reinforced the bank's commitment to continue its sustainable village development programs. Moving forward, BNI plans to maintain and expand its rural empowerment initiatives as part of its broader role in supporting inclusive national development. The bank aims to strengthen the economic foundations at the village level, contributing to more equitable and sustainable growth across Indonesia.
