PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI), or BNI, has taken the precautionary measure of temporarily closing 12 service outlets in Area W01, North Sumatra. This decision follows the region's experience of severe flooding and extreme weather conditions starting from November 25, 2025. The flooding in North Sumatra, along with other affected areas such as Aceh and West Sumatra, has had a devastating impact. As of November 29, 2025, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a significant humanitarian toll, with 174 lives lost, 79 individuals missing, and 12 injured across the three provinces. North Sumatra has been particularly affected, with 116 reported deaths and 42 individuals still missing. The disaster has also led to significant infrastructure disruptions, including the closure of key transportation routes.
The BNPB, led by Suharyanto, has been actively involved in coordinating relief efforts and assessing the damage. Several evacuation points have been established, with Mandailing Natal having eight such sites, particularly in the sub-districts of Siabu, Muara Batang Gadis, and Batahan. Efforts to restore access to affected areas are ongoing, with the deployment of heavy equipment to clear roads and restore connectivity.
The situation remains fluid, with the BNPB continuing to monitor and update the status of the affected regions. BNI's decision to temporarily close its branches reflects its commitment to prioritizing the safety of both its customers and employees during this challenging period.
