According to Corporate Secretary BNI, Okki Rushartomo, cybercriminals typically exploit major religious holidays to launch targeted attacks on bank customers through various digital channels 1
The scammers typically send Christmas messages accompanied by files or links purporting to be gift applications. These applications contain malware that can capture customers' personal data, including banking information, when downloaded and used. Okki explained that if customers download these applications or enter their personal details, the perpetrators can access their accounts and steal their balance 1
To safeguard against these threats, BNI advises customers not to casually click on links or download files from unknown sources. Customers are also urged to verify the authenticity of received messages and never share confidential banking information such as card numbers, CVV/CVC, PIN, or One Time Password (OTP) with anyone.
