PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) has taken a significant step in promoting environmental sustainability through its 'Yok Kita Gas' program under the BRI Peduli initiative. The program utilizes Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) technology to encourage proper waste management and recycling practices among the community.
During the KOPLING 2025 music event held at Gambir Expo Kemayoran on November 8-9, 2025, BRI Peduli successfully deployed RVM technology to educate attendees about the importance of waste management. For every plastic bottle deposited into the RVM, participants received Rp1,300 worth of credit that could be converted into e-wallet balance through the Plasticpay platform. Over the two-day event, the RVM collected 56.1 kilograms of plastic bottles from 109 transactions, resulting in a reduction of 297,000 grams of carbon footprint and saving 47.40 square meters of land from potential pollution.
This recent initiative builds upon BRI's ongoing efforts in environmental conservation. Since its launch in 2024, BRI Peduli has installed eight RVM units at strategic locations in Jakarta, collecting 4,281.4 kilograms of plastic bottles from 2,349 users and recording over 42,000 transactions. Overall, the program has contributed to reducing 22,666,248 grams of carbon footprint and saving 3,617.44 square meters of land.
BRI's Corporate Secretary, Dhanny, emphasized that this initiative not only provides direct incentives for recycling but also changes the public's perception of waste. By giving economic value to plastic bottles, the program encourages individuals to participate actively in environmental conservation. This effort aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the Indonesian government's Asta Cita vision, which emphasizes harmony between humans and their environment.
The 'Yok Kita Gas' program operates through two main implementations: in traditional markets and community environments such as waste banks and Integrated Waste Management Facilities (TPST). By empowering communities to manage waste effectively, BRI is fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. The program's success was further highlighted by the participation of key figures, including Minister of UMKM Maman Abdurrahman and Presidential Special Envoy Raffi Ahmad, who visited the RVM booth during KOPLING 2025 to support the initiative.
