Enhancing Economic Competitiveness through Standardization

The National Standardization Agency (BSN) is emphasizing the importance of National Quality Infrastructure (IMN) in driving Indonesia's economy towards greater competitiveness, inclusivity, and sustainability. BSN Acting Head, Y. Kristianto Widiwardono, explained that IMN fundamentally consists of three main components: standardization, accreditation, and metrology. These elements form the foundational requirements for ensuring the availability of products that meet the necessary standards for businesses.

Key Components and Implementation Challenges

The implementation of IMN is supported by various conformity assessment institutions, including testing laboratories, certification bodies, inspection bodies, and metrology services. These components play a crucial role in ensuring that products consistently meet quality requirements. However, the distribution of IMN services remains a significant challenge, with certain regions lacking optimal access to these essential services. This disparity often results in additional time, cost, and effort for businesses to comply with quality standards.

Promoting Equitable Economic Transformation

BSN recognizes that the equitable distribution of IMN is fundamental to ensuring that economic transformation is not limited to growth centers but is felt across all regions of Indonesia. Kristianto highlighted that without this balance, the benefits of economic development might be concentrated in specific areas, leaving others behind. The agency is thus focusing on improving the availability and accessibility of IMN services nationwide.
