PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk. (BBTN) has received international recognition for its groundbreaking mortgage program 'Bayar Angsuran-Mu Pakai Sampah-Mu' (Pay Your Installments with Your Waste). The initiative, which allows customers to reduce their home loan installments by exchanging household waste, has been praised by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands during her visit to Indonesia.
The program enables customers to reduce their monthly mortgage payments by 10-15% by exchanging household waste. For customers with monthly installments ranging from Rp1.1 million to Rp1.2 million, this translates to savings of Rp100,000 to Rp200,000 per month through waste exchange. The initiative not only helps customers financially but also promotes environmental sustainability by encouraging proper waste segregation and recycling.
BTN's Director, Nixon LP Napitupulu, highlighted that this program is part of the bank's active efforts in promoting ESG initiatives. The bank has been collecting and converting household waste into savings for customers for the second year, demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability. The program is part of BTN's broader strategy to provide innovative financial solutions while promoting eco-friendly practices.
BTN plans to expand this program to 100 locations across Java by the end of 2026. The bank is also working on a long-term roadmap for financing low-emission homes, with a target of developing 150,000 units by 2029. As part of this initiative, BTN has already launched a pilot project involving eight developers and 1,317 units of low-emission homes.
The program not only provides financial relief to customers but also contributes to environmental conservation. By encouraging households to segregate waste and exchange it for savings, BTN is promoting a culture of recycling and sustainability. This initiative aligns with the bank's overall mission to provide innovative financial solutions that benefit both its customers and the environment.
