The project involves developing a designated plot of land chosen from eight options provided by the Saudi government. Danantara's proposal includes a comprehensive plan and design for the 'Kampung Haji Indonesia' project, with the selected site located in the Jabal Hindawiyah area due to its relatively flat terrain.
Danantara, through Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara), is in a competitive tender process against 90 other companies for the rights to develop and manage a Hajj village in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The project, known as 'Kampung Haji Indonesia', represents a significant opportunity for Indonesia to enhance its religious tourism infrastructure.
The Saudi government offered eight potential plots for the project, from which Danantara selected the Jabal Hindawiyah location (plot number 6) due to its favorable topography - being relatively flat and free from rocky terrain that would require extensive preparation. The company's CEO, Rosan Roeslani, explained that the bidding process was based not on price (as the price was predetermined) but on the quality of the development plan and master design. Danantara submitted its comprehensive proposal on October 30, 2025, which included detailed planning and design for the Hajj village.
The development of the Hajj village is expected to enhance the experience of Indonesian pilgrims traveling to Mecca. The project's success could strengthen Indonesia's religious tourism infrastructure and potentially create future business opportunities in the region. The unique aspect of this project is the competitive selection process where the technical proposal and master plan played a crucial role in the bidding process.
