Heavy rainfall in Kendal, Central Java, on Thursday (15/1) night caused flooding between Kaliwungu and Kalibodri train stations, disrupting train services on the Pantura Java line. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), the state-owned railway company, issued an apology to affected customers due to the delays.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, explained that the flooding reached up to the rail heads and caused erosion, necessitating a temporary halt in train operations to ensure passenger safety. "The temporary stoppage was a safety precaution. The safety of our customers and train operations is our top priority," Anne stated in a written release on Friday (16/1/2026).
The disruption resulted in 18 delayed train journeys, affecting both westbound and eastbound services. KAI worked to resolve the issue promptly while maintaining their commitment to safety. The incident highlights the challenges faced by railway operations during extreme weather conditions in Indonesia.
