Sumatra Land Transportation Disrupted by Natural Disasters

Extensive Damage Across Multiple Regions

Recent severe floods and landslides in Sumatra have caused significant disruptions to land transportation and logistics services. The Indonesian Express Delivery Companies Association (ASPERINDO) reported that several areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra remain inaccessible by land due to the natural disasters.

Affected Regions and Delivery Challenges

The affected areas include:

• Tapanuli Utara (Tarutung, Pahae, Sarulla, and surrounding areas)
• Sibolga and surrounding areas
• Tapanuli Tengah (Pandan, Tukka, and surrounding areas)
• Padang Sidempuan and surrounding areas
• Tapanuli Selatan (Sipirok, Madina, Palas, Paluta, and surrounding areas)
• Langkat, Tanjung Pura, P. Susu, P. Brandan, Besitang
• Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, Lhokseumawe, Bireun, Banda Aceh
• Kutacane, Blangkejeren, Aceh Singkil, and surrounding areas

For these regions, delivery services are currently only possible through air transportation. Major routes such as Padang to Bukittinggi and various district connections in West Sumatra remain cut off due to landslides.

Impact on Logistics and Delivery Services

The disruption has significantly affected logistics operations in the region. ASPERINDO stated that within Medan city and its surroundings, several points are still affected by flooding, causing delays in delivery and pickup services.
