In a move to enhance food security in North Sumatra, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has given the green light for an additional 5,000 tons of rice to be supplied to the region. The request was made by North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution following a visit to Bulog's Sibolga warehouse. The decision was made during a meeting attended by Bupati Tapanuli Tengah Masinton Pasaribu and Bulog's Director Utama Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani.
The Agriculture Minister stated that while the immediate request was for 5,000 tons, preparations were being made to have a total of 15,000 tons available. This larger stockpile is intended to provide a buffer against potential future needs. The distribution of the rice will be managed by local authorities, ensuring that it reaches the required areas.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to maintaining food security, particularly in regions that may be vulnerable to supply fluctuations. By increasing the rice supply, the government aims to stabilize prices and ensure that the population has access to this staple food.
