Indonesia Boosts Shrimp Exports to US with New Certification

The Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has issued 1,248 Certificate of Admissible (CoA) documents for cultured shrimp between November 2025 and January 9, 2025. This proactive measure is in response to new regulations set by the United States, effective January 1, 2026, mandating that all shrimp imports must be accompanied by such certification. The certification process ensures that Indonesian shrimp exports comply with the US Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) standards, particularly focusing on the reduction of bycatch.

Scope of Certified Shrimp Products

The certification covers various shrimp products, including live, fresh, chilled, frozen, dried, salted, or smoked shrimp, as well as shrimp flour, powder, and pellets. This comprehensive coverage ensures that the entire range of Indonesian shrimp exports meets the stringent US import requirements. The KKP's Quality Control Agency, led by Ishartini, confirmed that all Indonesian cultured shrimp exports to the US have met the comparability finding requirements, which are equivalent to US programs aimed at reducing marine mammal bycatch.
