Indonesia Boosts Tourism with Transport Discounts for Nataru

Government Initiative to Drive Economic Growth

The Indonesian government has announced comprehensive transportation discounts during the upcoming 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holiday season. The measures include significant reductions across various transport modes: 20% discount on sea transport through ASDP ferry services, 13-14% discount on air travel, and 30% discount on economy class train tickets. These discounts are expected to stimulate both domestic and international travel, with projections indicating 100 million domestic travelers and 1.3 million international visitors.

Economic and Tourism Projections

The tourism sector is expected to receive a significant boost from these measures, with various events planned across the country. A total of 244 events will be held nationwide, including major festivals such as the DWP in Bali (targeting 70,000 visitors), Yogyakarta Festival (5,000 visitors), Festival Minangkabau (54,000 visitors), and Big Bang Festival Jakarta (895,000 visitors). Additionally, the government has prepared 65 tourism packages for 10 priority destinations.

Implementation Details

The transportation discounts will be implemented during specific periods: sea transport discounts (17 December - 10 January), air travel discounts (22 December 2025 - 10 January 2026), and train ticket discounts (22 December 2025 - 10 January 2026). These coordinated efforts between various government ministries aim to create a comprehensive tourism stimulus package that will drive both economic growth and cultural exchange during the holiday period.
