Indonesia has witnessed a substantial decrease in online gambling transactions, with the total value dropping from Rp 359 trillion in 2024 to Rp 155 trillion by September 2025, according to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). This Rp 204 trillion reduction represents a significant shift in consumer spending patterns.

Government Initiatives Redirecting Consumer Spending

Temmy Satya Permana, Deputy for Small Enterprises at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, attributed this decline to a change in societal behavior. He stated that the funds previously used for online gambling are now being redirected towards essential goods. The ministry is actively promoting this shift through programs like the Every Purchase is Cheap (EPIC) SALE, encouraging consumers to spend on necessities such as food and clothing.
