Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa remains confident in achieving the target of collecting Rp 20 trillion from tax defaulters by the end of 2025. The ministry has already collected Rp 8 trillion from the 200 identified defaulters, with the remaining amount being pursued aggressively. Purbaya emphasized that the ministry is serious about collecting these dues, warning defaulters not to take the matter lightly.
The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) faces several challenges in collecting the outstanding tax dues. Some defaulters have requested to pay in installments, with 91 taxpayers currently on an installment plan. Others have declared bankruptcy (27 taxpayers) or claimed financial difficulties (5 taxpayers). The DJP is employing various strategies to address these challenges, including legal actions, asset seizures, and preventive measures against beneficial owners.
The ministry is taking a multi-pronged approach to recover the outstanding taxes. This includes legal actions against 4 taxpayers, asset raising for 5 cases, and preventive measures against 29 beneficial owners. Such decisive actions demonstrate the government's commitment to improving tax compliance and revenue collection.
The successful collection of these taxes will significantly boost Indonesia's tax revenue, helping to support the national budget. The ministry's efforts to tackle tax evasion and default are crucial for maintaining fiscal health and funding public expenditures. As the year progresses, the effectiveness of these measures will be closely monitored by financial markets and stakeholders.
