Indonesia to Enhance Infrastructure in NTT Transmigration Areas

The Indonesian government has announced plans to prioritize infrastructure development in transmigration areas of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Minister Coordinator for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), highlighted the need for improvement during a working visit to Ponu Transmigration Area, North Central Timor Regency, NTT.

Key Infrastructure Challenges

AHY emphasized that infrastructure remains the primary obstacle to development in these transmigration regions. The main issues identified include:

1. Poor road conditions: Many roads require significant repairs to facilitate better transportation and connectivity.
2. Limited clean water access: The lack of proper water infrastructure, such as dams and irrigation systems, hampers agricultural productivity and daily living conditions.

Government Plans and Initiatives

The Minister stressed that improving infrastructure is crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity and overall regional development. The government aims to address these challenges through:

1. Road infrastructure upgrades: Repairing and maintaining roads to improve connectivity.
2. Water resource development: Building dams and irrigation systems to support agriculture and provide clean water.
