Indonesia's Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, visited Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto to discuss the refinement of the Indonesian Standard Business Classification (KBLI). The meeting focused on updating the classification system to better capture emerging business sectors and improve economic data accuracy.
Rosan explained that the current KBLI needs updating as many new business fields lack classification codes. The refinement will help create a more accurate picture of the country's economy. "Because the new KBLI will be refined according to current developments. Many business fields don't have KBLI codes yet, so this will help us capture our economy better and more accurately," Rosan stated after the meeting.
The KBLI is typically updated every five years, with the last revision occurring in 2020. This update is particularly timely as it will be used for the 2026 economic census. By refining the classification system, the government aims to ensure that economic data is recorded accurately and comprehensively. The updated KBLI will enable better tracking of economic activities, including those in emerging sectors that currently lack proper classification.
