Crackdown on Unauthorized Land Leasing

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has taken swift and decisive action against high-ranking officials at the Ministry of Agriculture following an inspection that revealed 300 hectares of state land were being leased to private entities. The discovery was made during a surprise inspection at the Agricultural Research and Modernization Center (BRMP) in Sukamandi, Subang Regency, West Java.

Emphasis on Proper Land Utilization

The minister stressed that state agricultural land must be used for its intended purpose: developing superior seeds and agricultural technology for the benefit of the public. "We have the technology, tools, and human resources, but instead of utilizing them, the land was leased out. This is unacceptable," Amran stated emphatically during the inspection.

As a demonstration of accountability, the minister immediately relieved the director and other high-ranking officials of their duties. "Today, we removed the director and echelon III officials. The SK (decree) was handed over directly at the site," Amran explained. This action underscores the minister's commitment to ensuring that state resources are managed properly.

The minister has directed all BRMP units across Indonesia to focus on planting superior seeds and utilizing the best available technology. He emphasized that the results should be shared with the public free of charge, leveraging the nationwide presence of BRMP facilities.
