Potential Acquisition to Resolve Financial Issues

The Indonesian government is exploring the possibility of taking over the infrastructure of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project, known as Whoosh. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that this move could help resolve the project's financial challenges and debt obligations. The state budget (APBN) is being considered as a potential funding source for this acquisition, which would cover all outstanding construction debts.

Operational Management Remains with KCIC

While the government plans to take over the infrastructure, operational management including maintenance of the railway facilities will remain with PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the project's operator. The company will continue to be supervised by BPI Danantara, ensuring proper management of the railway assets. Minister Purbaya clarified that the government intends to focus on paying for the infrastructure while the rolling stock will remain under the responsibility of KCIC.
