Indonesian Home Minister Urges Jakarta to Fund Housing Repair Program

Call for Increased Housing Allocation

Home Minister Tito Karnavian has urged the Jakarta government to allocate funds for the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS) program in their 2026 budget. This request follows recent statistics from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) revealing that Jakarta has approximately 209,000 uninhabitable homes.

Strong Fiscal Capacity Supports Initiative

Tito emphasized that Jakarta has the financial capability to fund such initiatives, with 68% of its regional budget coming from local revenue. 'We highly appreciate it if housing issues are budgeted, as DKI has the fiscal capacity for it,' Tito stated during a meeting at Wisma Mandiri in Jakarta. The minister further suggested that the BSPS program should be prioritized, especially in slum areas.
