Key insights and market outlook
The Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI) has requested that the government reconsider its policy to restrict truck traffic during the Christmas and New Year period of 2025/2026. The current policy, implemented through a joint ministerial decree, restricts movement of trucks with three or more axles and certain cargo vehicles starting December 19, 2025. ALI Chairman Mahendra Rianto emphasized that the two weeks leading up to year-end are the busiest period for the logistics industry.
The Indonesian government issued a joint ministerial decree (SKB) numbered KP-DRJD 6064/2025, HK.201/11/19/DJPL/2025, 104/KPTS/Db/2025, and Kep/230/XI/2025 to restrict the movement of certain trucks during the Christmas and New Year period. The restrictions, effective from December 19, 2025, target trucks with three or more axles, trucks with trailers, and vehicles transporting mining materials and construction materials.
Certain categories of vehicles are exempt from these restrictions, including:
These exempt vehicles are still required to carry official cargo documents at all times.
Mahendra Rianto, Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI), expressed concerns about the potential impact of these restrictions on the logistics industry. He highlighted that the period leading up to the year-end is particularly crucial for logistics operations due to increased demand for goods transportation. Rianto urged the government to consider alternative solutions that balance traffic management needs with the operational requirements of the logistics sector.
The logistics industry in Indonesia is particularly sensitive to year-end demand surges due to holiday shopping and corporate year-end activities. Restricting truck movements during this peak period could lead to significant operational challenges and potential supply chain disruptions. The industry is concerned that such restrictions may result in delays in goods delivery, potentially affecting both businesses and consumers.
