Minister AHY Reports on Devastating Conditions

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has provided a comprehensive report on the recent natural disasters that have affected several provinces in Sumatra. During a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) on Prevention and Settlement of Land Crime in Jakarta, AHY described the conditions in the affected areas as very bad.

Extensive Visit to Affected Areas

AHY spent approximately three days visiting the affected regions, including North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra. His visit provided firsthand insight into the scale of the disaster caused by the recent floods and landslides. The minister specifically mentioned the occurrence of a rare tropical cyclone Senyar, which had not been experienced in Indonesia for the last 25 years.

Unusual Weather Pattern

AHY highlighted that the tropical cyclone Senyar is an unusual weather phenomenon for Indonesia's geographical location. Typically, such cyclones occur in countries like the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan, moving towards the South China Sea. The unexpected occurrence of this cyclone in Indonesia has resulted in more severe consequences than anticipated.
