The Indonesian motorcycle market recorded a notable increase in sales during October 2025, with total units sold reaching 590,362. This figure represents a 4.09% month-on-month (MtM) growth, making it the highest monthly sales figure for the year 2025. According to Sigit Kumala, Chairman of the Commercial Division at the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), the data shows that approximately 60% of these purchases were financed through credit. This percentage indicates a strong reliance on financing options among motorcycle buyers.
The significant proportion of credit purchases (around 60%) suggests a substantial opportunity for multifinance companies. However, Suwandi, Chairman of the Indonesian Financing Companies Association (APPI), noted that financing companies are becoming increasingly cautious in approving credit applications due to rising risks associated with problematic credit practices. The industry is experiencing challenges such as the prevalence of vehicle transactions without proper documentation, which complicates the financing process.
The sales data also revealed that scooter matic motorcycles dominated the market, accounting for nearly 95% of total sales. In contrast, electric motorcycles have seen stagnant sales, primarily due to the absence of government subsidies during the first half of the year. This highlights the impact of regulatory support on the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
For the first ten months of 2025, total motorcycle sales reached 5.42 million units, representing a 10.51% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to the same period in 2024. This strong performance has brought the total sales to approximately 85.69% of the full-year 2024 figure. Johannes Loman, Chairman of AISI, stated that the association maintains its sales target of 6.4 to 6.7 million units for 2025, reflecting confidence in continued market growth.
