Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has reassured the public that the country's fuel supply remains secure despite ongoing stockouts at some private gas stations operated by Shell and VIVO. The minister emphasized that the national fuel reserves currently stand at 18 days, exceeding the minimum requirement of 15-16 days.
The stockouts at private gas stations have occurred because some operators, specifically Shell and VIVO, have not yet purchased additional fuel stocks from Pertamina Patra Niaga. In contrast, BP-AKR has already restocked. Despite this situation, Bahlil assured that the overall fuel supply remains stable and that there is no immediate risk of widespread shortages.
The minister pointed out that consumers can still purchase fuel from stations operated by Pertamina and BP-AKR, ensuring that the public has access to fuel despite the stockouts at some private stations. 'People can still buy fuel at stations that have stock, like Pertamina and BP-AKR,' Bahlil explained.
According to reports from Shell, the company has not yet reached a business agreement with Pertamina, which is why they have not restocked their fuel supplies. This situation has contributed to the ongoing stockouts at Shell and VIVO gas stations.
Bahlil emphasized that the government is monitoring the situation closely and is confident in the stability of the national fuel supply. He stated, 'I must assure you that, as of today, our fuel stock is safe, with reserves at 18 days, and the minimum is 18 to 19 days.' The government's assurance aims to alleviate public concerns about potential fuel shortages.
