Indonesia's ESDM Ministry Steps In to Address Illegal Mining Concerns Amid Floods

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has responded to growing concerns that illegal mining activities may have worsened the recent severe flooding in Aceh and parts of Sumatra. Vice Minister Yuliot Tanjung confirmed that the government is actively addressing the issue through the Mineral and Coal Mining Task Force (Satgas PHK).

Yuliot Tanjung explained that Satgas PHK is currently conducting thorough field assessments to map and identify illegal mining operations. "The task force has been deployed to the field and is carrying out comprehensive mapping of the situation," he stated during a visit to the ESDM Ministry in Jakarta. This proactive measure aims to tackle the root causes of illegal mining and its potential environmental impacts.

The recent floods and landslides that have affected several regions in Aceh and Sumatra were primarily attributed to extreme weather conditions.
