Nusron Wahid, Indonesia's Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), has stressed the critical importance of maintaining proper spatial planning. During the 2025 National Agrarian and Spatial Planning Day held at Hotel Sheraton Gandaria, Jakarta, Nusron emphasized that effective planning is essential to prevent future problems.
The minister pointed out that poor planning can lead to significant issues, including land disputes and the misuse of land for purposes other than those intended. He noted that the initial intent behind development projects is typically manifested through the establishment of Regional Spatial Plans (RTRW) and Detailed Spatial Plans (RDTR). These plans are formulated by planning experts in coordination with project initiators, including government entities.
Nusron warned against the practice of allowing spatial planning to be dictated by financial considerations, a phenomenon he referred to as 'tata uang'. He urged stakeholders to maintain the integrity of spatial planning, stating, "Let's maintain this spatial planning, don't let it turn into financial planning!" He further explained that the missing link in many cases is the shift from proper spatial planning to financial control.
The minister's statement underscores the government's commitment to upholding the principles of good governance in spatial planning. By emphasizing the importance of proper planning and warning against practices that prioritize financial gain over spatial integrity, Nusron highlighted the need for continued vigilance in this area.
