The Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop) has provided an update on the status of seven troubled cooperatives, revealing that they still owe a total of Rp 23.9 trillion to their creditors. According to Herbert H.O Siagian, Deputy for Cooperative Supervision at Kemenkop, these cooperatives are continuing to make repayments, albeit at a slow pace.
The seven cooperatives in question are KSP Indosurya, KSP Sejahtera Bersama, Koperasi Jasa Berkah Wahana Sentosa, KSP Pracico Inti Utama, KSP Pracico Inti Sejahtera, KSP Timur Pratama Indonesia, and KSP Lima Garuda. Notably, two of these cooperatives account for the majority of the debt: KSP Indosurya owes Rp 13.8 trillion, while KSP Sejahtera Bersama owes Rp 8.6 trillion.
Herbert explained that the repayment process is ongoing, with the cooperatives making gradual payments to their creditors. While the ministry has seen some progress, the repayment amounts have been relatively small compared to the total debt. The ministry remains committed to resolving these financial issues through structured repayment plans.
The significant debt owed by these cooperatives raises concerns about the financial stability of the cooperative sector in Indonesia. Creditors and members of these cooperatives are likely to be affected by the slow repayment process. The ministry's efforts to facilitate gradual repayments are crucial in mitigating the impact on these stakeholders.
The case highlights the importance of robust regulatory oversight in the cooperative sector. The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises continues to play a critical role in monitoring and addressing financial irregularities within cooperatives to prevent similar issues in the future.
