PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JAPFA) and Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) have officially launched a state-of-the-art Teaching Farm in Pattallassang, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi on December 16, 2025. This strategic collaboration represents a significant milestone in bridging the gap between industry and academia in the poultry farming sector.
The Teaching Farm, valued at Rp 3 billion (approximately USD 200,000), spans 1,500 square meters and has the capacity to house over 20,000 chickens. The facility is equipped with modern closed-house technology, featuring automated ventilation and temperature control systems. These advanced systems enable optimal environmental conditions, leading to improved feed efficiency, reduced mortality rates, and minimized production waste.
The Teaching Farm is designed to support comprehensive practical learning for students, covering various aspects of modern poultry farming including animal husbandry, biosecurity implementation, veterinary health, and farm business management. Rachmat Indrajaya, Director of JAPFA, emphasized that this facility is part of the company's commitment to developing modern farming technologies through research and education.
The collaboration between JAPFA and UNHAS, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in mid-2024, exemplifies the synergy between industry and higher education institutions. Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, Rector of UNHAS, highlighted that this partnership not only supports the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) but also demonstrates a shared commitment to producing graduates who are industry-ready and capable of meeting future challenges in the poultry farming sector.
This initiative is expected to nurture a new generation of poultry farmers and professionals who are well-versed in modern, sustainable farming practices. By providing hands-on experience with cutting-edge closed-house technology, the Teaching Farm will enrich the curriculum with practical, research-based learning experiences. As JAPFA and UNHAS continue this collaboration, they aim to contribute significantly to Indonesia's food security and the development of the national poultry industry.
