The technology, deployed at 22 major stations covering 67 different lines, has resulted in a significant reduction in paper ticket usage, amounting to 25,576 rolls and translating to monetary savings of Rp375 million.
The face recognition system has seen massive adoption among passengers, with a total of 10,230,218 users recorded between January and November 2025. According to Anne Purba, Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, the technology has not only reduced operational costs but also significantly improved the speed of access to train platforms. This enhancement is particularly crucial during peak travel periods, such as major holidays and festive seasons.
The implementation of this technology forms a critical component of KAI's preparations for high-traffic periods, particularly during the upcoming holiday season (Nataru). With travel projected to surge in various major cities, the face recognition system is expected to play a vital role in managing the increased passenger volume efficiently.
