KAI Enhances Rail Service with New Stainless Steel Trains

Introduction of SS New Generation Trains

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has officially introduced its new Stainless Steel New Generation (SS NG) trains for two of its premium services: Gajayana and Parahyangan routes. The new trains were put into operation starting January 10, 2026, for the Gajayana route between Malang and Gambir, with the return journey commencing on January 11, 2026. Similarly, the Parahyangan route between Gambir and Bandung began using the SS NG trains on January 11, 2026.

Safety and Operational Readiness

According to Anne Purba, KAI's VP of Corporate Communication, the deployment of the SS NG trains was preceded by rigorous technical preparation and safety checks. Purba confirmed that all new trains underwent comprehensive safety and operational feasibility tests before being allowed to carry passengers. This meticulous approach underscores KAI's commitment to maintaining high safety standards in its operations.

Service Configuration

The Gajayana train, which operates exclusively with executive class, has been fully upgraded with the new SS NG trains. The Parahyangan service, which offers both executive and economy class, has incorporated the SS NG trains for its executive class carriages, while the economy class continues to use the existing premium 80-seat configuration.
