KAI Plans Expansion of High-Speed Rail Service to Banyuwangi

Presidential Directive Sparks Optimism

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, has expressed confidence in extending its high-speed rail network to Banyuwangi following recent instructions from President Prabowo Subianto. The directive was given during the inauguration of the new Tanah Abang Station. KAI's CEO, Bobby Rasyidin, emphasized that the company is ready to implement the expansion as the current Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail (KCJB), branded as Whoosh, continues to show increasing occupancy rates.

Rising Occupancy Supports Expansion Plans

The success of the KCJB has been a significant factor in KAI's optimism. With the occupancy rate of Whoosh on the rise, the company sees no major obstacles in operating the expanded service. Bobby Rasyidin mentioned that the positive trend in ridership gives KAI the confidence to proceed with the expansion plans, which include potential routes to Surabaya and further to Banyuwangi.
