Key insights and market outlook
PT KBI has collaborated with Universitas Gadjah Mada and Asmakara to empower 73 soybean farmers across 3 farming groups, increasing their production by 43% from 9 tons to 21 tons. The program includes incorporating harvested soybeans into a warehouse receipt system, providing economic benefits to farmers. KBI is also reforesting areas with coffee plants, having planted 500 coffee trees in the first phase and preparing 600 more seedlings for the second phase.
PT KBI has partnered with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Asmakara (Asosiasi Masyarakat Kedelai Lokal Nusantara) to implement a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program focused on agriculture. The initiative has successfully empowered 73 soybean farmers across three farming groups, managing a total of 10 hectares of land. Through KBI's guidance, these farmers have seen a significant increase in their soybean production, rising by 43% from 9 tons to 21 tons.
The program's success is largely attributed to the integration of the harvested soybeans into a warehouse receipt system. This system allows farmers to benefit from better price management and financial stability. According to Saidu Solihin, Director of Business Development and Operations at KBI, "By incorporating our soybean harvest into the warehouse receipt system, farmers can experience sustainable economic improvement."
In addition to soybean farming, KBI has launched a reforestation project involving coffee plants. The initiative began with the planting of 500 coffee trees across 2800 square meters in Garut, West Java. The project has now entered its second phase, with preparations underway to plant an additional 600 coffee seedlings. This effort not only contributes to forest conservation but also aims to enhance coffee cultivation and improve local farmers' livelihoods.
The dual focus on soybean and coffee farming through KBI's initiatives is expected to have a positive impact on both the local economy and environment. By incorporating coffee into the warehouse receipt system in the future, the program aims to create a sustainable economic model for local communities while promoting environmental stewardship through reforestation.
