Key insights and market outlook
PT MRT Jakarta plans to develop a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) in its Phase 2A corridor, connecting Sawah Besar Station to Gajah Mada Plaza through an underground link. This development is part of MRT Jakarta's efforts to enhance connectivity and accessibility around its stations. The project is currently in the finalization stage, with plans for direct underground access between the station and the mall.
PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is moving forward with its plans to develop a comprehensive Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) as part of its Phase 2A project between Harmoni and Kota. A key component of this development is the planned connection between Sawah Besar Station and the historic Gajah Mada Plaza, one of Jakarta's oldest shopping centers.
According to Sony Desta, Division Head of Project Management for Construction (PMC) 1 at MRT Jakarta, the connection will feature direct underground access between the station and the mall. This will significantly enhance passenger convenience and promote the use of public transportation by creating seamless transitions between MRT services and commercial areas.
The project is currently in the finalization stage, with MRT Jakarta working closely with Gajah Mada Plaza to complete the interconnection. Sony Desta confirmed that the collaboration is being finalized, stating, "We are finalizing the cooperation for interconnection underground. We have prepared an opening for this purpose, allowing direct access from the station entrance to the mall below."
This development is part of MRT Jakarta's broader strategy to transform areas around its stations into integrated transportation hubs. By connecting major commercial centers like Gajah Mada Plaza to the MRT network, the project aims to reduce congestion, promote public transport usage, and enhance the overall urban mobility experience in Jakarta.
The successful implementation of this TOD project could serve as a model for future developments along Jakarta's MRT corridors, potentially transforming the way urban infrastructure is planned and executed in the city.
