New High-Speed Train Service to Enhance Jakarta-Bandung Connectivity

Government Agreement for Faster Rail Link

The West Java Provincial Government has signed a cooperation agreement with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to develop a new high-speed train service connecting Jakarta and Bandung. This new rail service, known as KA Pajajaran, is designed to reduce travel time between the two cities to 1.5 hours. The development is part of Indonesia's ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and boost economic connectivity between major urban centers.

Differentiated Service from Existing Whoosh Train

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that the new KA Pajajaran service will not be a direct competitor to the existing Whoosh high-speed train. The Whoosh train currently operates with travel times ranging from 36 to 45 minutes for direct journeys between Jakarta and Bandung. Hartarto explained that the difference in travel times means the two services will cater to different market segments, thus avoiding direct competition.

Strategic Infrastructure Development

This new high-speed rail project is part of Indonesia's broader infrastructure development strategy, focusing on enhancing transportation links between key economic regions.
