OCBC has introduced the #BaiknyaBarengBareng campaign to encourage equal collaboration between mothers and fathers in childcare. This initiative recognizes the crucial role that fathers play in children's development, beyond just financial support. Research cited in the campaign shows that children with actively involved fathers tend to have better emotional and academic outcomes.
Studies have shown that fatherless children, or those lacking active father involvement, are more likely to experience emotional and developmental challenges. According to data from BPS (Profil Anak Usia Dini 2024), about 7.10% of urban children and 7.96% of rural children are raised by single parents. Even when both parents are present, many children lack meaningful interaction with their fathers.
Experts emphasize that maximizing these three factors can significantly reduce the negative impacts of fatherlessness. Clinical psychologist Lilik Nila E from RS Mitra Bangsa stresses that while no parent is perfect, consistent effort from both parents can create a nurturing environment for children.
The campaign challenges the traditional Indonesian notion that childcare is primarily the mother's responsibility. Public figure Denny Sumargo shared his personal experience of supporting his wife during childbirth, highlighting how men's involvement can significantly help women emotionally and mentally.
Through the #BaiknyaBarengBareng campaign, OCBC aims to contribute to cultural change by promoting more balanced parenting roles. Brand & Communication Division Head Aleta Hanafi stated that the campaign seeks to break down gender-based barriers in family responsibilities. By encouraging collective efforts in childcare, OCBC hopes to create a more supportive environment for children's development.
