The Indonesian Tax Authority (DJP) under the Ministry of Finance has revealed that only 7.7 million taxpayers have activated their Coretax accounts out of 14.9 million registered taxpayers as of December 2025. This represents an activation rate of 51.66%. The Coretax system is a modernized tax reporting platform that will become mandatory for filing annual tax returns starting in 2026.
Of the 7.7 million taxpayers who have activated their accounts, only 4.8 million (32.38% of total) have proceeded to complete additional security measures. These include generating authorization codes and obtaining electronic certificates, which are crucial for secure tax filing. The relatively low completion rate of these security steps raises concerns about potential challenges in the upcoming tax season.
The Coretax system has undergone two trial runs to test its functionality and security. Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, emphasized the importance of widespread adoption among taxpayers to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. The DJP is expected to intensify its outreach efforts to encourage remaining taxpayers to activate their accounts and complete the necessary security measures before the 2026 deadline.
