The agreement will form the technical and commercial foundation for a roadmap to develop green data center infrastructure, paving the way for implementation.
The development of green data centers is particularly timely as Indonesia is entering a digital transformation era characterized by a surge in data center demand. The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) reports that this trend is driven by over 212 million internet users in Indonesia, with data center facilities expected to continue growing until 2029-2030. According to projections on electricity consumption in the industry, nearly 26% of electricity consumption is driven by data center growth.
Edwil Suzandi, Director of Exploration and Development at Pertamina Geothermal Energy, emphasized that this breakthrough represents a strategic step in creating new opportunities for a low-emission digital industry in Indonesia. By leveraging geothermal energy for data center operations, PGEO is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable digital infrastructure development in the country.
