Key insights and market outlook
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) has deployed emergency response teams via sea routes to support flood evacuation efforts in Langsa, Sumatra. The operation includes evacuating stranded citizens and delivering essential supplies such as food, medicine, and communication equipment. PGN's efforts demonstrate their commitment to supporting disaster relief through collaboration with local authorities and other Pertamina subsidiaries.
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as a Subholding Gas Pertamina, has taken immediate action in response to the severe flooding affecting multiple regions in Sumatra. The high rainfall over recent days has resulted in disrupted land access, damaged telecommunications networks, and an urgent need for evacuation in isolated areas. To address these challenges, PGN deployed a response team via sea routes to accelerate the distribution of aid, assist in evacuation efforts, and restore communication access in affected regions.
The evacuation process began on Monday (December 1) night, with the sea route chosen due to inaccessible land roads and high water levels in several areas. Following intensive coordination with relevant authorities, including port officials and local volunteers, PGN's team successfully evacuated 35 people comprising both workers and local residents. The operation utilized a combination of resources, including fishing boats from Belawan and a Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu boat to facilitate the evacuation to dry land.
In addition to evacuation services, PGN provided essential supplies including basic food items, ready-to-eat meals, medications, and operational equipment such as generators and satellite communication devices. The installation of satellite internet enabled real-time updates on ground conditions, mapping of areas requiring immediate assistance, and expedited delivery of emergency supplies. "In emergency situations, timely information can save lives. Communication support serves as the initial gateway for effective evacuation and targeted aid distribution," stated Ris Haryono, VP RSS SOR 1 PGN Wilayah Sumatera.
PGN's response effort involved close coordination with multiple stakeholders, including Bea Cukai, Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu, Pertagas, local port authorities, fishermen, and technical teams from PT PGAS Telekomunikasi Nusantara (PGNCom) and PGN Solution. This collaboration was crucial in ensuring the readiness of evacuation equipment, navigation routes, and field communication infrastructure. PGN's Corporate Secretary, Fajriyah Usman, expressed appreciation for the dedication of all parties involved in the disaster response, reaffirming PGN's commitment to supporting relief efforts until normalcy is restored.
