PLN Achieves 98.61% Electricity Recovery in North Sumatra

Comprehensive Restoration Efforts

PT PLN has successfully restored electricity to 98.61% of affected areas in North Sumatra following the recent flood and landslide disaster. As of December 5, 2025, the state-owned electricity company reported significant progress in their restoration efforts across the region. The recovery process involved comprehensive work across the entire electricity system, including distribution, transmission, substations, and power plants.

Challenges and Solutions

PLN's Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, highlighted the challenging conditions faced during the restoration, including extreme weather and difficult terrain. The company successfully replaced 900 damaged electricity poles in Sibolga City and Central Tapanuli Regency, areas particularly affected by the disaster. The construction work was carried out despite challenging field conditions such as slippery soil, subsequent landslides that caused poles to collapse again, and extreme weather conditions.

Recovery Statistics

The 98.61% recovery rate was achieved through continuous fieldwork and strategic efforts to accelerate the normalization process. This achievement demonstrates PLN's commitment to restoring essential services to the affected communities in North Sumatra.
