State-owned electricity company PLN has successfully completed the electrification of 22 villages in Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, through its comprehensive Village Electricity Program (Lisdes). This significant achievement has brought 24-hour electricity to over 2,183 households, marking a major milestone in the region's development.
The electrification project involved constructing 164.6 kilometers of electrical grid infrastructure to reach these remote communities. PLN faced significant challenges during implementation, including navigating muddy roads, crossing rivers, and overcoming limited access that restricted transportation of heavy equipment like poles and transformers. Despite these obstacles, PLN's dedication and the local community's support enabled the successful completion of the project.
The introduction of electricity has transformed daily life in Murung Raya. Residents are now able to enjoy basic comforts that were previously unavailable. For instance, students can study more comfortably without relying on dim oil lamps, while local businesses can operate more efficiently. Ibu Yensi, a local resident, shared her experience, stating, "Before the electricity, we used oil lamps which were very dim. Now, our lives are much easier."
The availability of electricity is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and education system. Local businesses, such as small shops, can now store perishable goods using refrigerators, while educational institutions can improve their facilities. The principal of SDN Hingan Tokung noted that electricity has made the school 'come alive,' creating a more conducive learning environment for students.
PLN's Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized that electrifying remote areas like Murung Raya is part of the company's strategic mission to bring welfare to all parts of Indonesia. He stated, "PLN is committed to ensuring that every rupiah allocated by the state is used to bring light and prosperity to the people."
General Manager of PLN UID Kalselteng, Iwan Soelistijono, highlighted that the successful electrification of these villages is expected to support local economic activities, education, and daily life. He added that PLN aims to ensure that all villages and sub-districts in Murung Raya are electrified by 2030, further enhancing the region's development prospects.
