Ensuring Readiness for Year-End Travel Surge

PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state-owned electricity company, has undertaken a significant test of its Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) infrastructure by conducting a Lampung-Surabaya electric vehicle journey from December 15-18, 2025. This initiative, dubbed PLN Mobile EVenture 2025, demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

The test involved a collaborative effort between various stakeholders in Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem. Key participants included vehicle manufacturers represented by their exclusive distributors (ATPM), representatives from relevant government ministries, and members of electric vehicle user communities. The electric vehicle convoy traversed key routes connecting Sumatra and Java, stopping at major cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Cirebon, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. This strategic route selection was designed to test the availability and reliability of SPKLU facilities along Indonesia's primary transportation corridors.

Objectives and Implications

The primary objective of the PLN Mobile EVenture 2025 was to ensure that the company's charging infrastructure could adequately support the anticipated increase in electric vehicle usage during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday period. By proactively testing its SPKLU network, PLN aims to provide reliable and accessible charging services to electric vehicle users embarking on long-distance journeys across Java and Sumatra.
