In celebration of the 80th National Electricity Day (HLN), PT PLN (Persero) has successfully provided free electricity connections to 20 underprivileged households in Bali through its 'Berbagi Cahaya, Menumbuhkan Harapan' (Sharing Light, Growing Hope) program. This initiative is part of PLN's broader national commitment to achieving energy equity for all Indonesians, particularly those in remote and underserved communities.
The program was implemented in multiple locations across Bali, including Sesetan (Denpasar), Tianyar (Karangasem), Penebel (Tabanan), and Depeha (Buleleng). For families like I Nyoman Nuki, a parking attendant living in Sesetan, Denpasar, the new electricity connection has been life-changing. Previously relying on makeshift electricity from neighbors, Nuki's family can now enjoy proper lighting and improved living conditions.
The initiative received appreciation from local government officials, including Denpasar Deputy Mayor I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa, who praised the program's alignment with Denpasar's motto 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The world is one family). The program demonstrates PLN's commitment to social responsibility and community development through energy access.
PLN's efforts in Bali are part of a larger strategy to strengthen the island's electricity infrastructure. According to Evy Haryadi, PLN's Director of Technology, Engineering, and Sustainability, the growing electricity demand in Bali necessitates the development of new power plants and transmission networks. This infrastructure enhancement aims to support Bali's economic growth while ensuring reliable electricity supply for both existing and new customers.
The 'Berbagi Cahaya, Menumbuhkan Harapan' program is part of PLN's national initiative to provide over 8,000 free electricity connections across Indonesia in commemoration of the 80th HLN. As PLN continues to expand its energy access programs, the company remains committed to its mission of delivering energy equity and supporting national development through improved electricity infrastructure.
