PLN to Electrify Feeder Trains for Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway

Collaboration with KAI for Railway Electrification

PT PLN (Persero) is strengthening its collaboration with PT KAI (Persero) to implement railway electrification programs across Indonesia. The initiative begins with the electrification of feeder trains for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, known as Whoosh. Currently, these feeder trains still use diesel engines, producing significant noise.

Enhancing Efficiency and Reducing Noise Pollution

PLN's Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, explained that the electrification plan involves providing electricity for the trains operated by KAI. This move is expected to improve efficiency and reduce noise pollution associated with diesel engines. The program is part of a broader effort to modernize Indonesia's railway system.

Expansion Plans for Other Railway Routes

Beyond the Whoosh feeder trains, PLN and KAI are also planning to electrify other railway routes. These include the Tanah Abang-Rangkas Bitung, Bandung, and Surabaya routes. The collaboration between PLN and KAI demonstrates a commitment to developing sustainable and efficient transportation infrastructure in Indonesia.
