Key insights and market outlook
PT PLN (Persero) is collaborating with PT KAI (Persero) to electrify railway networks, starting with the feeder trains for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway (Whoosh). This initiative aims to replace diesel-powered trains with electric ones, enhancing efficiency and reducing noise pollution. The electrification program also includes other routes such as Tanah Abang-Rangkas Bitung, Bandung, and Surabaya.
PT PLN (Persero) is strengthening its collaboration with PT KAI (Persero) to implement railway electrification programs across Indonesia. The initiative begins with the electrification of feeder trains for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, known as Whoosh. Currently, these feeder trains still use diesel engines, producing significant noise.
PLN's Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, explained that the electrification plan involves providing electricity for the trains operated by KAI. This move is expected to improve efficiency and reduce noise pollution associated with diesel engines. The program is part of a broader effort to modernize Indonesia's railway system.
Beyond the Whoosh feeder trains, PLN and KAI are also planning to electrify other railway routes. These include the Tanah Abang-Rangkas Bitung, Bandung, and Surabaya routes. The collaboration between PLN and KAI demonstrates a commitment to developing sustainable and efficient transportation infrastructure in Indonesia.
