As part of its 80th National Electricity Day celebration, PT PLN (Persero) has launched the 'Berbagi Cahaya, Menumbuhkan Harapan' (Sharing Light, Growing Hope) program, aiming to connect electricity to over 8,000 households across Indonesia. This initiative specifically targets low-income families who, despite having grid access, cannot afford the connection fees.
In Demak, Central Java, the program has made a significant impact by providing free electricity connections to 10 households. Previously, these families were relying on shared electricity connections from neighbors. The successful implementation was met with joy from the community, with residents expressing gratitude for the improved living conditions. Kuzaemah, one of the beneficiaries, stated, "Alhamdulillah, now my house is bright. Thank you, PLN, may it be blessed for everyone."
The local government official, Camat Sayung Sukarman, appreciated PLN's efforts, noting that the electricity connection would significantly improve the quality of life for the residents. "This is not just assistance, but a real proof of attention to the small people," he said. The presence of electricity is expected to enable children to study better, and local businesses to operate more effectively.
PLN's Director of Distribution, Arsyadany G Akmalaputri, emphasized that electricity is a fundamental requirement for equitable development and economic growth. "Through this program, PLN is committed to ensuring that every household in Indonesia can enjoy the benefits of electricity," she explained. The program bridges the gap between electricity availability and the ability of low-income households to access it.
With the success in Demak, PLN plans to continue its efforts nationwide. General Manager of PLN's Central Java and Yogyakarta Distribution Unit, Bramantyo Anggun Pambudi, highlighted that the program aims to ensure that no one lives without access to electricity. "Every house connected means new opportunities for a better life," he added.
