Prabowo Donates 20,000 Hectares for Elephant Conservation in Aceh

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has made a significant contribution to elephant conservation by donating 20,000 hectares of forest land in Aceh. The land, managed through his company PT Tusam Hutani Lestari, will be used to create a vital elephant corridor in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Background of the Donation

The donation was made following a request from WWF during Prabowo's meeting with King Charles III in late 2024. Initially, WWF requested 10,000 hectares, but Prabowo decided to double the contribution to 20,000 hectares. This decision demonstrates his commitment to environmental conservation and wildlife protection.

Implementation and Impact

The entire concession area of PT Tusam Hutani Lestari has been handed over for the creation of the elephant corridor. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni confirmed that the land is now being managed jointly with WWF to establish a comprehensive conservation area. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance elephant conservation efforts in Aceh by providing a safe habitat and corridor for these animals.
