Prudential Indonesia recorded Rp5.2 trillion in health insurance premiums for the first three quarters of 2025, representing 34% of the company's total premium income. According to Yosie William Iroth, Chief Health Officer at Prudential Indonesia, this growth highlights the increasing demand for health insurance products in Indonesia.
The company reported that hospitalization claims amounted to Rp2.9 trillion, while outpatient claims reached Rp1 trillion during the same period. This distribution of claims underscores the significant financial burden of inpatient care on health insurance providers.
Yosie acknowledged that medical inflation and rising healthcare costs pose challenges for both insurers and consumers. To mitigate these effects, Prudential Indonesia advocates for a national health service tariff standardization that would cover not just hospitals but also pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Currently, Indonesia lacks a comprehensive national tariff policy, resulting in significant variations in treatment costs for similar medical conditions.
The company welcomed the issuance of Minister of Health Regulation No. 3/2023 regarding standard health service tariffs in the national health insurance system, primarily implemented by BPJS Kesehatan. However, the industry, including private health and life insurers, hopes for further tariff adjustments to enhance service transparency, quality, and efficiency.
To remain competitive and attract new customers, Prudential Indonesia is committed to its customer-centric strategy. The company continues to innovate its product offerings with features that meet evolving consumer needs. Additionally, Prudential is expanding its distribution network to better capture market opportunities, particularly among millennials and Gen Z, who now constitute 54% of Indonesia's population.
