SKK Migas and Petrogas Commence Drilling of Karim #1 Exploration Well

SKK Migas and Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. have officially started drilling the Karim #1 exploration well in the Kepala Burung Working Area, West Papua. This significant project is part of their firm work commitment in the operation area and marks an important step in Indonesia's energy exploration efforts.

Technical Details of the Drilling Operation

The drilling operation is being conducted using Rig #3, which has a capacity of 750 HP. The well is designed to reach a depth of approximately 4,300 feet and is expected to take about 1.5 months to complete. The primary target of the well is the carbonate rocks of the Kais Formation. The operation is being carried out with a strong emphasis on Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects.

Strategic Importance and Potential Impact

The President of RH Petrogas Companies in Indonesia, Ferry Hakim, highlighted that the Karim prospect was identified using a new exploration concept supported by advanced technology. The results from this well are expected to unlock further development potential in the surrounding areas and contribute to Indonesia's energy security goals. The successful execution of this project will be a significant step in optimizing hydrocarbon potential in the West Papua region.

Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. has renovated the Klagana Bridge and four other connecting bridges, improving access to surrounding villages. Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. is acting as the operator of the Kepala Burung Working Area, in partnership with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Salawati Basin. The operations are being conducted under the supervision and control of SKK Migas, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
