In addition to its global achievements, Telkomsel remains committed to restoring telecommunications services in disaster-affected areas of Sumatra. The company has made significant progress in network recovery efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. As of the latest update, Telkomsel has achieved 98% cellular service availability (4,527 out of 4,616 sites) in North Sumatra and 99% IndiHome service recovery (313,741 out of 314,956 lines).
Several critical fiber optic routes that were affected by the disaster have been restored, including the Sibolga-Balige, Sibolga-Padang Sidempuan, Dolok Sanggul-Barus, and Pagaran-Tonga-Panyambungan routes. In Nias Island, where there was a complete power outage and telecommunications disruption during the disaster, Telkomsel deployed emergency satellite connectivity devices, logistical support, and operational services via sea transport. All network services in the region have now been fully restored.
Telkomsel has implemented various customer support measures for affected communities, including free telephone, SMS, and SIM card replacements, extended service validity, data package adjustments, and bill adjustments. The company has also established disaster response customer service posts to provide direct assistance to affected customers. Additionally, Telkomsel offered a free emergency package (Paket Siaga Peduli Sumatera) via UMB 88820#, which included 3 GB data or 300 minutes of calls and 1,000 SMS for 7 days.
Telkomsel's recovery efforts have been conducted in coordination with various stakeholders, including PLN, BNPB, Basarnas, local governments, and strategic partners. The company has also collaborated with the Telkom Group to support the recovery through emergency response posts, free WiFi services, public kitchen assistance, logistics mobilization via ships and aircraft, and commercial satellite installations.
